United Way of Greater St. Louis (UWGSL) Leadership Givers are at the heart of our efforts to inspire change, instill hope, and cultivate community growth. They share a common goal of building a better St. Louis region and strengthening each other as leaders.
As UWGSL celebrates National Mentorship Month, Women’s Leadership Society members like Mary Kate Hogan play a key role in making the Society’s mentorship program a success. Mentors help fellow Society members in the areas of leadership, personal development, innovation, and more.
Developing today’s generation of women in leadership as well as the next one is a culture that Mary Kate is proud to be a part of.

“Over the course of my life and career, I’ve had incredible female mentors that have been so important to me and my development, so [mentorship] is something that is near and dear to me,” said Mary Kate in an interview on WBGZ radio. “We as a group are very passionate about developing as leaders for change.”
Mary Kate’s support of UWGSL began over 35 years ago and it is a tradition that runs deep in her family’s history. When Mary Kate’s parents were children, they would canvass their local neighborhoods with their parents to try to garner support for their local United Ways, telling people about United Way’s impact and how much they can make a difference through their support.
Mary Kate continues to build on this decades-long lineage by joining her fellow Leadership Givers in pledging $1,000 or more to UWGSL each year to tackle some of our region’s most pressing needs.
In addition to her admirable philanthropic efforts, Mary Kate leads a successful legal career that has spanned nearly 15 years. She currently serves as a Corporate Attorney and Partner at Quarles and Brady LLP.
Her professional skills and commitment to lending a helping hand to others makes her an outstanding role model for her peers and a leader in the United Way community.
“Mary Kate’s longstanding generosity to United Way sets a high standard, and many women have become more philanthropic and community-focused under her tutelage in our mentorship program,” said Alana Pease, Director of Leadership Societies for United Way of Greater St. Louis. “United Way’s Leadership Givers are among some of our St. Louis region’s best and brightest, and when you have opportunities for them to pour into each other through mentorship, you see growth, stronger leadership, and increased generosity.”
As we enter a new year, UWGSL is proud to expand its mentorship program to include men as well. Now, all of our Leadership Givers will have an opportunity to make an impact through mentorship. The program will run from April through October.
Participants will be placed into mentoring circles – small, thoughtfully curated groups that offer space for meaningful dialogue, shared experiences, and peer-to-peer learning.

Building on the success of the Women’s Leadership Society Mentorship Program, this expanded offering brings together more passionate, community-minded leaders who are committed to growing personally and professionally while making a meaningful impact across our region.
Iron sharpens iron, and Mary Kate is excited about the opportunity to collectively empower each other.
“Working with some of the folks in my mentorship group, I’ve found new ways that I can give and personal ways I can make a difference,” said Mary Kate. “We have to all find ways where we can impact positive change and then encourage and support each other in doing them.”
