United Way has three funding opportunities to support local nonprofits with a proven ability to meet the community’s needs and make a lasting, important impact in our region. The Safety Net application is now closed. Information about the System and Targeted funds will be released later this year.


Safety Net

Nonprofit organizations providing direct services in our 16-county service area to address needs identified in the Community Needs Assessment (CNA)
Request for Proposal (RFP) CLOSED March 10


Organizations providing backbone, collective impact, and/or advocacy services to address community needs identified in the CNA


Organizations addressing emerging or emergency and/or innovative solutions

Five Things to Know About Safety Net


Our Safety Net funding opportunity is currently closed but you can still review our quick guide to Safety Net funding and timeline.

  1. The Safety Net funds nonprofit organizations providing direct services in our 16-county service area to address at least one need of the 24 needs identified in the Community Needs Assessment (CNA)
  2. Safety Net grants provide support for three years with an abbreviated application every three years
  3. The Safety Net provides funding for general operating support
  4. The maximum a nonprofit can receive is 20% of the organization's budget for services within our 16-county region
  5. Accepted nonprofits will complete an annual report and receive performance reviews

Can I still apply for Safety Net funding?

No. The Safety Net application deadline was March 10 at 5 P.M. Learn about other funding opportunities by signing up for future communications.

Where can I access United Way’s funding Request for Proposal (RFP)?

As funding opportunities become available we will release the RFP to Agency HQ. Sign up to receive future communications.

If my agency serves in multiple service areas and has multiple programs, do I need more than one application?

No. Agencies only submit one application to apply for funding.

If I don’t qualify for Safety Net funding, when can I apply for funding for System and Targeted funds?

The RFP for System will be released later this year and the RFP for Targeted will be released in January 2021, respectively. Nonprofits are required to submit separate applications for each funding category they wish to be considered for, and you can submit one application per Request for Proposal (RFP). What is the timeline for the other United Way funding categories?

The RFP for System will be released later this year and the RFP for Targeted will be released in January 2021, respectively. You can view the full timeline for the other funding categories, here.
