About us

Anchored in faith and ever mindful of their blessings, David and Thelma Steward were inspired to create the Steward Family Foundation in 2013. Today, it ranks among the largest private family foundations in the United States. The Stewards are committed serving others by impacting the world through innovation, education, and empowerment. Philanthropy is more than just a vehicle to administer generosity. It is an opportunity to demonstrate compassion. It is an opportunity to create lasting change. It is an opportunity to produce an eternal return on investment.

David Steward, Sr. is the Founder and Chairman of World Wide Technology (WWT), the largest Black-owned company in the United States. Agency Highlights

Academy Museum Foundation

The Steward Family Foundation’s support was instrumental in advancing the Academy Museum’s third full year of operations. Their generous contribution enabled the Museum to expand its public education and accessibility initiatives, including the K–12 education program, which is on track to grow significantly. The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures has continued to cultivate a dynamic curatorial and programming vision—one that educates, fosters discovery, and inspires new perspectives on global cinema history. We extend our deepest gratitude to the Steward family for their outstanding leadership and meaningful support.

City Academy

The Steward Family Foundation’s generous contribution played a vital role in helping us achieve our campaign goals. This successful campaign enabled us to construct a new Early Childhood Center and redesign our STEAM Wing—key enhancements that directly support our mission to provide an exceptional education. In addition, the Foundation’s gift to our Endowment Scholarship Fund ensures that future generations of City Academy students will have the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive within our community. Thanks to the Steward Family Foundation, City Academy has been able to increase enrollment incrementally each year, with the goal of reaching our full capacity of 250 students.

Nurses for Newborns

The Steward Family Foundation grant was pivotal in helping Nurses for Newborns reach more families. Through collaboration with eight partner agencies, we expanded services to nine new counties, reducing waitlists and bringing critical care to underserved areas. Investments in operational efficiency and targeted outreach enabled us to connect with more families in need, providing timely, life-changing support. Your generosity directly impacted our ability to grow and serve the most vulnerable families. Together, we are building stronger, healthier communities by ensuring every baby has the chance to thrive
