Flood Response & Recovery

Flood Response & Recovery

Due to unprecedented flooding, many of our neighbors and friends are currently facing property damage and displacement. In times like these, United Way works diligently to leverage partnerships, resources and expertise to assist governments, agencies and individuals with relief and recovery efforts during a natural disaster. And, long after the media coverage has ended, we will be there to support the changing needs of our community due to this historic flood.

United Way and our disaster response partners have been helping people in need. Here are a few ways our community is working together to assist with storm recovery efforts:

  • United Way’s Volunteer Center has recruited hundreds of volunteers to assist with sandbagging operations and is anticipating needing additional volunteers for supply distribution and flood cleanup in the coming weeks. If you’d like to volunteer for flood relief efforts, visit STLVolunteer.org/Disaster to find current opportunities or sign up to receive alerts in the future when urgent volunteer needs arise.
  • In a partnership between AmeriCorps St. Louis and United Way’s 2-1-1 and Volunteer Center, impacted residents are receiving assistance with flood cleanup, debris removal, mold remediation and more. If you were affected by flooding and need help, please dial 2-1-1 or 1-800-427-4626.
  • United Way’s Flood Relief Fund will support recovery efforts in our community for impacted households, such as clean-up, disaster case management, temporary housing and shelter, food, long-term recovery and other emerging basic needs.

In times of disaster, conditions and needs can change rapidly. United Way continues to monitor weather conditions and current needs, ready to offer support as our region braces for river crests and more potential flooding.

Disaster recovery is a long process, and United Way is committed to providing leadership to ensure immediate needs are met and help is available as long as it is needed.

Special thanks to the partners and organizations that make this work possible: American Red Cross, AmeriCorps St. Louis, Catholic Charities, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, The Salvation Army and others providing recovery and long-term help efforts.
