United Way 2-1-1 is our 24/7 helpline that has fielded thousands of COVID-19-related calls – helping us learn what our community needs the most.
Since the start of the COVID-19 crisis, 2-1-1 has seen a nearly 127% increase in calls for help compared to last year. Through 2-1-1 and the coordination with our partner agencies, we are on the front lines to determine where resources and funding are most needed across our region.
As the needs of our Greater St. Louis community evolve, we will keep connecting callers to resources they need. We will continue to help through the uncertainty and times ahead.
health-related and COVID-19 information requests identified. With so much information about COVID-19, the community needed a central place to find reliable information about their health.
individuals needed help finding food or assistance with meal delivery. More people are reaching out for help for the first time, which has increased demand for basic needs like food. That’s why United Way is supporting nonprofits like the St. Louis Area Foodbank through emergency funding.
people requested help with housing and utility assistance. Individuals and families felt (and still are feeling) the impact of income changes due to COVID-19 and that has led to immediate and critical housing needs. We are working hard to connect callers to these resources and funding nonprofits that are helping provide these critical resources.
requests for household items like toiletries and cleaning supplies. With shortened store hours and increased demand for these products, it’s a unique challenge we’ve seen arise.
individuals looking for mental health support, which is a growth of 76% from the same time frame last year. Isolation, changes to routine, jobs, and relationships have added additional stress to this time. We partnered with Behavioral Health Response to provide mental health and crisis telephone-based counseling services. Just dial 2-1-1 and press 1 to get connected to a mental health professional.
